2010 Newsletter from the desk of Sue Armstrong

Engeleni Lodge opened it's doors for the first time on the 15th May 2002. Eight years on, we welcome you to our very beautiful part of the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, known as the Kamberg Valley.

Those of us lucky folk who live within sight of the Kamberg Mountain ( Named Engeleni by the Zulus ) believe we share one of South Africa's best kept secrets. An unspoilt treasure trove of scenic beauty, diverse flora & fauna & fun activities for all ages.

The new year began in positive mood, inspite of the general economic downturn. January through March has brought us a steady stream of overseas guests from all parts of the UK, Europe & Rep.of Ireland. For many, a first time in our majestic uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Mountains, which are home to some of the very best San rock pantings in the country.

It is also most satisfying to welcome so many repeat bookings. These folk have now become our "old friends" & we sincerely appreciate their patronage. We so enjoy sharing in their pleasures of sitting back, chilling out & making the most of all we have to offer.

Trout fly fishing is our biggest drawcard for those who relish in the challenge of catching ---& releasing--- that whily trout. Our dams have produced hours of fun & tight lines for the experienced & beginners alike. Some monster Rainbow & Brown have been brought to shore, proudly photograghed for evidence ---! & posterity-- before being returned to their silent waters.

Hiking, Biking, Horse riding, Birding, Hot Air Ballooning are among the favourite pastimes. We can highly recommend a balloon flight from the Lodge front lawn, weather & winds permitting. This has to be the ultimate romantic experience to share with a loved one, to celebrate a special occasion. Very well chilled bubbles of the best of South African vines to follow, with your scrambled egg on home smoked trout. Thanks go to HOT AIR BALLOONING S.A. for their excellent service.

The many popular sporting events held annually in the Kamberg, guarantee a flood of competitors. The Giant's Castle Mountain Bike Challenge, to be held on the 25th April when approximately 400 brave & intrepid riders compete over the gruelling 70 kms, through some of the most scenic terrain in the country.

The Kamberg Bells Flyfishing Festival will host 180 rods from the 20th to 23rd May. This team competition is recognised as the largest trout fishing events in South Africa.

We maintain our 4 star TGCSA grading with pride. The AA Quality Assured inspection renewed our "SUPERIOR" rating. We endeavour to maintain the very best standards & value for money, while creating an atmosphere of tranquillity, homeliness & comfort. We enjoy reading in our visitors book that guests "feel so at home".We owe this hugely to our wonderful staff, whose bright smiles, willingness to attend to our guest's every need & attention to detail. They make extremely "light work" for our self catering guests ----- Girls & Guys, the scullery is out of bounds" !!!

I continue to offer my personalised guided tours throughout KwaZulu Natal. Bookings for tours are appreciated at the time of accommodation bookings. Please refer to ENGELENI PERSONAL TOURS on the website to view the diverse type of tours on offer. Sit back & relax while enjoying the beauty of the Midlands & beyond.

As colourful Autumn approaches & log fires beckon, Graham & I, with our staff at Engeleni Lodge & Mayfly Cottage, invite you to come & join us. We look forward to meeting you at our front door.
